Bread Rolls

  • Serves 4
  • Prep time 45 minutes
  • Cook time 10-15 minutes

What to do

  1. Preheat the oven to Gas mark 7, 220°C for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Place the greaseproof paper onto a baking tray. Sieve together the flour and pinch of salt into a mixing bowl.
  3. Stir in the yeast and sugar.
  4. Add the warm water, and mix into a dough.
  5. Knead the dough for 5 minutes.
  6. Divide the dough into 4 and shape into rolls.
  7. Place the 4 rolls onto the baking tray.
  8. Cover the dough with cling film and leave in a warm place for 30 minutes to allow it to rest and double in size.
  9. Brush the tops of the bread rolls with milk or beaten egg.
  10. Then sprinkle on sesame seeds, poppy seeds, grated cheese or diced onion to decorate the rolls.
  11. Bake in the oven for 10–15 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Remove the rolls from the oven and allow to cool.

Pinch of salt
50–75ml warm water
Milk or beaten egg, to glaze

Poppy seeds
